Heirloom Hibiscus (Oaxaca)
We love that you love this hibiscus! We’re out of stock until the 2021 harvest; please sign up for the waitlist and we’ll be sure to let you know when it’s back this spring!
Hibiscus, or jamaica, is a flower with a wide range of culinary uses. It is most commonly found steeped into a chilled tea, but it is also cooked down and used as a filling in both sweet and savory preparations.
Our whole-flower hibiscus comes from the same farmers who grow Masienda’s corn and beans in coastal Oaxaca. Each flower is hand picked and slowly sun dried, in order to maintain the highest integrity possible. Unlike the commodity flowers sold in most supermarkets, no dyes are used in the production of this hibiscus. It makes for a juicier flavor with a floral, citrusy finish and naturally-stunning crimson color.
