Tortilla Press (Medium) by Doña Rosa

Tortilla Press (Medium) by Doña Rosa

Deep in the labyrinthine heart of Oaxaca’s Central de Abastos, Doña Rosa has been selling tortilla presses to locals for longer than she can recall. From the first time we worked with this style of press, we have consistently marveled at how such a simple, seemingly straightforward tool could make such an outsized impact on a finished tortilla. Unavailable in the US, its pure heft and tight calibration make a range of tortilla thicknesses possible (where every other commercially-available press falls disappointingly short).

Upon multiple special requests over the years, we’ve brought back as many of these handmade presses that our suitcases could carry. Entertained by our efforts, Doña Rosa eventually agreed to make a limited number of presses just for Masienda. For extra style and food safety, we commissioned the presses uncoated and imported them to Los Angeles, where we had them professionally powder coated with FDA-approved paint.

After meeting enthusiastic approval (we’ve heard from many of you that THIS is the kitchen tool you never knew they needed!), we are now proud to offer a 27cm model of our popular (smaller) tortilla press. This size is perfect for larger format tortillas, or tostadas, measuring up to 9.5″.

Disclaimer: These are handmade tortilla presses with subtle imperfections. Use caution when opening and closing the lid, minding its edges and corners, which can be sharp. Paint may wear in high-contact areas after extensive use. Handle with care.

Tortilladora Specifications:

Base Dimensions: 11.5” x 10.5”

Capable of producing tortilla diameter up to 9.5”

    Powerful, consistent, beautiful, and fun

This baby provides a lot of torque across a pretty large, rigid surface. I never need to rotate for a second press. If my masa is a little wetter than I wanted, I can back off on my press to prevent getting a tortilla that’s too thin. If it’s a tad dry and I’m lazy and don’t wanna mix in more water, I can give it another hard press to flatten it out just right. The coating holds up (just flaking, obviously, at the lever hinge where the pressure hits). There are a few tiny bumps on the surface, which I worried at first would cut into the masa and affect the puff. But nope, never had a problem with that. Such a beautiful press!

Extremely well-build with Exceptional customer service

Very heavy duty construction and durable finish will ensure years of service. Highly recommend this if you are in market for a press, you will not be disappointed. Best of all, the customer service from Masienda is top-tier; they stand behind their products and went above and beyond with my transaction. Cannot go wrong with a purchase from this team!

    Love the press

Bought the press this spring along with several bags of masa. Shipping to Canada seemed like a lot at check out but then I received an email from Masienda that the found a better way and processed a credit. The press works amazing. No leaning curve. The masa tortillas are amazing. I will never go to the store again to buy tortillas.

    Upped my tortilla game

I was previously using a wooden press which took four pressings of each tortilla to get an even thickness. This press makes uniform tortillas with 2 pressings. The larger format also permits for a larger diameter. Well worth the investment!
