I love the pouch so much!

I love Masienda's Tortilla Warmer Pouch! It's a perfect size for corn tortilla I make and it keeps the tortilla very warm. I was a little hesitant to purchase it but it's a keeper. I highly recommend it!

Beautifully made!

Beautifully made and just the right "tortilla size". Sewing craftsmanship at its best! I love that the fabric is handwoven and the pouch handmade. Keeps tortillas toasty warm for serving.

100% Made in Mexico

Hand Woven, Naturally Dyed

Our tortilla warmers are made from cotton grown in Oaxaca by Khadi, a project that involves over 400 artisans who farm, spin, and dye heritage white and native coyuchi cotton into the cloth that makes up these pouches, a crucial component of the tortilla-making process. The small farmers Khadi works with practice the ancestral tradition of planting the milpa, intercropping cotton with corn. Participating farmers are typically involved in the project as a way of supplementing subsistence agriculture, thus preserving heirloom corn varietals in the process. Once the cotton is hand-spun into thread, it is naturally dyed using local materials such as indigo, oak bark collected from the forests of the Sierra Sur, and cochineal from the Oaxaca Valley.

The Crucial Last Step

Wondering how to achieve the soft, pliable texture of a perfect tortilla? We've got the secret: when the tortilla comes off the comal, tuck it inside of a warmer. The pouch has a dual function: it not only keeps your tortilla warm, but also holds in precious moisture in the form of steam, ensuring a soft tortilla that wraps around your taco filling without cracking or crumbling.

FAQ

Do I need a Tortilla Warmer?

Whether you choose to use a clean kitchen towel or a designated tortilla warmer (like ours, which is made of organic cotton) is up to you! But we encourage you not to skip this final step of the cooking process, which is letting your tortillas steam as they rest, creating even more pliability.

How do I clean my Tortilla Warmer?

First, we recommend shaking out your tortilla warmer after every use. To clean small stains, gently dab stain with a wet towel and gentle dish soap. To clean the whole pouch, hand wash in cold water in the gentle soap or mild detergent of your choice.

What are the Tortilla Warmer Pouches made out of?

Masienda Tortilla Warmers are made of organic Mexican cotton that is is dyed with natural, foraged materials by our partners at Khadi in Oaxaca.

How long should I let my tortillas steam?

Just a couple of minutes! By the time you slide your tortillas in your warmer, carry them to the table, and pour yourself a glass of water (or an ice cold chela), they've most likely been steamed to perfection.
